MindE Darkness
MindE Darkness is not a neutral reverb and not a simple drone oscillator, but a combined signal source and processing chain that covers three modes of operation:
- transform external audio through tape, filter, tremolo, and Abyss reverb into frozen textures
- use its own transport-controlled double drone as a sound source, completely without an external signal
- mix both sources in hybrid mode, so that drone and input signal run through the same chain together
Thus, Darkness is suitable for both quick sound design - a guitar signal is turned into a frozen drone in just a few steps - and for independent sound generation directly in the plugin, completely without an additional synth in the signal path.
Main Features
- Three signal sources: Internal (double drone), External (audio input), and Hybrid, smoothly blended
- Transport-controlled 55 Hz double drone with two oscillators, detune, and drone blend
- Black Metal Tape Engine: wow/flutter delay, asymmetric saturation, bit/sample hold
- Morph-safe state-variable filter (low, band, and high pass) with resonance
- Grim tremolo with triangular modulation
- Abyss reverb: four-line feedback delay network structure with damping and pitch feedback ("tail pitch")
- Freeze freezes the Abyss reverb and simultaneously blocks the signal input
- Equal-power dry/wet mix
- 17 automatable APVTS parameters with continuous smoothing
- 16 factory presets in six categories
- Presets as host programs for the DAW program list
- Musically limited randomizer that never activates freeze automatically
- Scalable dark-Nordic interface with central, freeze-reactive atom visualization
- Integrated mind-entertainment branding with tape-level pulse and about overlay
Sound Concept
At the core of Darkness is the idea of combining sound source and sound processing in the same instrument. The internal double drone provides two freely selectable waveforms with detune and mix ratio - a continuous, transport-controlled basis for everything that follows. External audio can use the same chain, either alone or together with the drone in hybrid mode.
The tape engine gives the signal its lo-fi character: modulated delay for wow and flutter, asymmetric saturation for warmth and compression, as well as bit and sample hold reduction for digital scratchiness. The morph-safe filter then shapes the frequency balance between low, band, and high pass, while the triangular grim tremolo adds rhythmic movement.
At the end of the chain awaits the Abyss reverb: a four-line feedback delay structure with two opposing, pitch-shifted read heads. The result is sound tails that not only get longer but also shift tonally as they fade out - and with freeze, any moment within can be permanently frozen until freeze is deactivated again.
