Richard Steinschlag
Richard grew up in Vienna and Lower Austria. He first came into contact with electronic music at the age of 14 during his first visits to record stores in Vienna. Later, he started going to discos and was surprised not to hear the modern music genres of acid house or techno there in the late 1980s. At the same time, he began producing his own songs using various software programs on the Amiga 500 and later on a PC.
In 1999, after a long rave phase and a life spent every weekend on the Viennese techno scene, he founded the "Brainfuckproject" with friends—a controversial sound system art project influenced by Ilsa Gold and Spiral Tribe. He performed as "NC Joe and Martins696" or "The Vienna Brainfuckproject" at parties in and around Vienna. They were the first collective to DJ exclusively digitally since 2000, playing only self-produced tracks and loops on four decks in hard mix.
After 2006, he had several bookings under the name "Krischan777" in the genres of dance, world house, and the emerging electroswing. He experimented with 432-hertz music and the golden ratio (see www.mindloveproject.net, search for 432).
In 2009, he launched the artist project "Richard Steinschlag" and turned his attention back to techno, this time as a DJ with some of his own new tracks, now minimal techno and electronica.
In 2012, he founded the "Mind Entertainment" project with events from Breclav (CZ) to the Camera Club, including the underground festival series "Electribe" at Valtice Castle.
In 2013 and 2014, two of his songs reached the Beatport Techno Top 100. He owed this success to more than a year of collaboration with Marcus and Andrea Swoboda for Syntex Records (Vienna).
In 2015, he developed the "Schmelze" cultural center into a small underground club and experimental testing ground for DJs and live acts. His responsibilities included resident DJ, technology, event management, co-hosting, and much more.
His sound style became even more unique and modern through the intensive use of Traktor DJ Studio's remix decks for live remixes to "Steinschlag Techno."
In 2016, he produced new material and played several gigs in Austria and Czechia. He continues to be active in the electronic dance music scene.
In 2019, he invited Jan Fleck and rented the entire Flex Club in Vienna for a "Vienna Virus" event. He also released new techno tracks.
In 2021, the musically unproductive year of 2020 was followed by Covid lockdowns, demos for "Save the Rave," as well as various club gigs and organized events.
In 2022, Klangschlacht joined the Mind Entertainment Records team, and Richard began producing remixes for him and vice versa. Several Oxytech releases followed.
The Freaky Friday event series was launched in 2024, and many new releases and concerts (with TiefUndTon, Mark Reeve, and others) followed.
In 2026, Richard programmed and finalized the Mind Entertainment VST plugin collection over the winter. Richard also implemented the Mind Entertainment visualizer on this page and relaunched the website itself.
